BACC_AGM 2026 Webmaster and Registrar’s Report

The website continues to run smoothly and reliably thanks to our excellent web hosts (newBlog Hosting.) The booking system for the Conference has worked well, and most dioceses have been helpful in submitting details of upcoming weekends for the calendar. The online forms for change of officer and diary entries have simplified those processes.

I only receive rare ‘blog’ posts to put into the news section, and would like to see more. It seems to me that when a diocese is putting on a social event or study day or the like, wider publicity that can be picked up by neighbouring dioceses or those prepared to travel could help to swell numbers and spread good practice.

Keeping the register up to date is a continuing headache. I take this opportunity to remind everyone that just sending an email saying “Our new Lay Director is Fred Bloggs and his email address is…” is not sufficient for me to make changes to the register. Under GDPR we need the person themselves to give express permission for us to store their data. This is now very simple to do using the online form at the website, and takes just a few moments to complete. Only their contact email address and name will appear on the online directory, but all other information (postal address, phone number etc) will be held by myself and the National Secretary.

One other issue that has cropped up from time to time is mainly on account of the use, as recommended, of generic email addresses. Many of our dioceses now use these, so that an email to, say, “LayDirector@nowherecursillo.org” can be locally forwarded to the right person even when there has been a change of officer. This is fine as long as the local person responsible keeps their forwarders up to date. When I send out a broadcast to all LD’s or SD’s I almost always have at least one person complaining to me that I have sent them an email when they gave up that particular job five years ago! Not only is the misdirection not my fault, but I can’t do anything about it either, other than bring it to the attention of the Secretariat concerned.

If anyone is confused or needs help with the website or the register and directory, please email me at webmaster@anglicancursillo.uk or phone me on 07879 465205.
